I know it is like the needle in the haystack syndrome trying to find a Smith in the country, but here goes. I am trying to trace the movements and history of my Grandma`s Aunt. She was christened Emma Jones, born in Hindley, Wigan in 1854, to Ann Ellen [either Troth or Price] and Thomas Jones a Labourer. The latter end of her life was I believe spent in Pudsey in West Riding of Yorkshire. She lived at 77, Leeds/Bradford Road, Stanningley, with her mother they were all called Smith at this time. From 1901 my grandma Ethel Minnie Smith was Living with them. Also in the family was Isabel who married Jack Heaton from Stanningley, they had two sons Norman and Harold. Another sister was Agnes who married a John Strickland also from Stanningley they had two children Eddie and Clarice. Finally there was brother Jeremiah who married Ruth Winn also from Stanningley, they had two children Sarah Ann and Leonard. Emma at this time seemed to spend a lot of time away from home as she was a Methodist Lay Preacher. It would seem that I already know a lot but I can find no record of birth for Ann Ellen Smith, or marriage cert. I do know she died in 1912. Emma who is the one I really want is more awkward I have her birth cert but she supposedly never married and and I cannot find any trace of her death. The whole family have changed surnames dates and places of birth so often it is unbelivable. Please I have trying to find Emma`s details for two years without any luck. I have come to a sudden stop with no idea what to look for next. If anybody out there can throw any light on it for me I would be very grateful. . Thanks in advance. Frank Walton. |
