My Great Grandfather, John Purdue came from Scotland to live at Newstead Colliery, Notts, attracted by the lucrative mining industry. We know nothing of his origins, however he seemed to be well-heeled,but my Mother remembers lawyers coming from Scotland to persuade him to claim a family estate - which he refused to do on the grounds that he would not spend his money! Mother remembers the lawyers arriving in a carriage and wearing top hats. We should love to find out what happened. (By the way Mother is now 99years old and she must have been about 9 at the time. |

hello not sure if you are still looking on your family tree but the john purdue you are talking about is my husband great grandfather too. |
