I am interested in finding out the history of WS Brown the butchers in and around Stoke-on-Trent, Staffs. My G-G-Grandfather was William Southall Brown (1819-1897) Married to Catherine Wood. They had 6 children including Mary Ann my G-Grandmother (Born 1845) and William Southall my G-G-Uncle (Born C1848). William (jnr) was the butcher, at 29 Broad Street, Shelton, Staffs He was married to Phoebe (Knight?) and they had 11 children, Mary Ellen(1869), William (1870), Phoebe(1871), Harry(1872), Sarah(1874), Edna(1877), Ethel(1878), Beatrice(1880), Charles(1883), George(1885), Arthur(1887). All Birthdates are approximate. I have heard from a totally unconnected relative who lives near the area that WS Brown's was fairly recently sold out, and I have a photo taken about a month ago of the shop (now a chicken shop.) Can anyone put me in contact with any descendants of the Brown family or suggest a starting place. I have a family photo taken by AC Heilbronn, 61 Picadilly, Hanley, Staffs, probably of Wm Southall Brown Snr with his children/grandchildren (mid - late 1800s) I would like to be able to identify them. I eagerly await any help anyone can give me. Barbara Waddell |
