My sister managed to get a family tree going back to Thomas Leathes b1810. The name seems to have been spelled with either an "I" or an "E", often different spellings have been recorded on the birth certs. of siblings. We seem to have names in common: Alfred Edward was the name of my uncle born 1911, his wife Evelyn born 1909. My dad James was born 1917. Their parents were Alfred b1886 and Sarah nee Meynall. His father was William Joseph and Sarah nee Taylor (9 kids). His father was William b1833 (eldest of 11). Unfortunately that was as far as she managed before she fell ill with cancer. I promised to continue so that her work wasn't wasted. If you think I may be of assistance and may have some details towards helping you trace your tree please contact me.
