I'm trying to trace the Walkers from Houghton-le-Spring. My maternal grandmother's maiden name was Eliza Walker, and her parents' names were Ralph (a miner) and Isabella or Isabel. Grandmother, who was born about 1880, had two at least two sisters: those I know of are Margaret (Maggie), who I believe settled in Merton, and Elizabeth (Lizzie) who settled in Ryhope. There was also at least one brother, Robert (Bob), who was also a miner, lived in Ryhope and was married to someone called Minnie. They had a daughter Jennie/Jenny. There may have been other children but I'm not sure. My mother Elizabeth (Betty) was one of the daughters of Grandma Eliza Walker (married name Mather). Does any of this ring a bell with someone. If so, please contact me as I'm very interested in tracing back my family roots. Thank you. |
