My name is Shirley Sime and I am trying to find out more about my mother's father's side of the family. He was called Walter John Cooper born 3/7/1903 place unknown, his father was called Frederick Alfred Cooper. We believe he may have had a sister and a brother, but we know little else because he joined the army under age and his mother never forgave him. As a young man he was in the Royal Artillary and rose through the ranks to a Major. He married my grandmother Jessie Madge Nicoll in the district of Hartley Wintney on the 3/8/1929 they had 3 daughters Elspeth, Joyce and Thelma. He was at the barracks in Crookham and my grandmother was living in Aldershot Rd, Fleet when they married. Her father was also in the Royal Artillary his name was Alexander Stratton Nicoll. If any of this rings a bell ?? please contact me a.s.a.p Regards Shirley Sime (nee Lee) |
