I am trying to find information about my paternal gggrandparents. Patrick SLOAN and Sarah WALMSLEY. Patrick was born in County Down, Ireland about 1821. Sarah was born about 1822 also in County Down. She is the daughter of George WALMSLEY and Christina MCDOWELL. I think Patrick and Sarah were married in Ballymartin about 1841. In 1849 Patrick was a Res Colour Sgt in the 9th Foot Regiment at Newry. They had 7 children, Mary Ann (abt 1848), Margaret (abt 1849), Hugh (abt 1856), Patrick (abt 1858), James (abt 1861), Christina (abt 1862) and Arthur (abt 1863). Patrick died 18 August 1863 and is buried at Killyleagh. The children emigrated to New Zealand. Mary Ann with her husband Joseph Quinn in 1874, Patrick and James in 1877, and Sarah came with Arthur, Christina and Hugh in 1880. They all settled at Rangiora, Canterbury, New Zealand. Margaret, the second daughter was the only member of the family to remain in Ireland. She married James Croskery and had about 6 children. Any help with the ancestors of Patrick and Sarah would be apppreciated, or info about Margaret and James Croskery's family. Cheers |
