What you really need, Bronwyn, is directions to FreeBMD! No fun having it all handed to you ... finding it yourself is way more fun.

http://www.freebmd.org.uk

You can search for the births and marriages of the people in those households Tina gave you.

Before 1837, you have to hope for parish records, many of which are collected here:

http://www.familysearch.org

- click on "advanced search", click on International Genealogy Index on the left.

You can also search the 1881 UK census there for free, although the search facility is better at

http://www.ancestry.co.uk

where that census is also free access. The FreeBMD births marriages deaths index is there too, and sometimes Ancestry's fuzzy search function gets better results.

Hi, This is my first time trying to trace my family tree and I've really no idea where to begin. My day Ishmael Evans (always known as Frank) was born 1 /9/1915 in Staffordshire. He had an older brother and sister - Abraham and Elizabeth (who died approx age 13). His father (my GF) also called Ishmael was born October 1882 - not sure where but again I think Staffordshire and married Elizabeth (nee Kent). His father (my GGF) was Abraham Evans. I know there is a Welsh connection somewhere as my dad was sent to live with relatives in Wales when his mother died in his early childhood but I don't know who, where or when. Can anyone help out a complete novice? Many thanks Bronwyn
