Looking on the other side of the family of Oakdens

We only have Ronald Varney born 10 July 1915, died June qtr 1973 at Spilsby, Lincs,
Father was Jack Varney, killed in Action in WW1 friend thinks 1918.
Not much to go on, have looked in CWGC and can't find a Jack or John to fit!!
Any help appreciated, thank you

Could some-one please do a 1921 Census search for Ronald as he should still be with his Mother hopefully and then I could see if this marriage that I found with a John G Varney to Rose Siddall in March 1915 could be Ronald's parents.

The death you refer to, showing DOB - as known to the person registering the death

Surname First name(s) DoB District Vol Page
Deaths Jun 1973 (>99%)
VARNEY RONALD 10JY1915 SPILSBY 3B 1130

There were only 2 Ronald Varney births in 1915 and only one of those would fit a July birth. Easily found via freebmd which would then lead to the parents marriage.

If correct person - with grandparents in 1921 and probably a sister.

The original shows him to be 5 years and 11 months old, Beatrice is 2y 10m.
their Father is shown as Dead

Beatrice Pearson aged 28 should be surname Varney as per original

The 1921 census was taken on 19 June 2021 which would make Ronald born July 1915

To ArgyllGran and Greyghost

Thank you very much for your help, I did wonder about the Jack being John as we have had them in our family, always called Jack but officially John.

Teresa Report 22 Apr 2026 17:11

Hi, I have Ronald Varney Marrying Marjorie Hall in Dec qtr 1939 Sheffield, she was born 8th September 1918 so would like some-one to look her up in the 1921 census please, so I can hopefully get her parents, then I can give my friend all of her 8 Great grandparents. Thank you very much for your help.

nameslessone Report 22 Apr 2026 17:20

Use freebmd or the GRO to find the surname of Marjorie’s mother, you should then be able to find a marriage between that name and Hall.

Doing one’s own research is most of the fun.

This is the only record to fit a September birth in Sheffield

No marriage with that combination of surnames
