Hi, I wonder if anyone can help me push a tree back even further. I want to find the ancestors of Elizabeth Guylott who was born c 1781 in Long Stanton, Cambs, married 20/4/1805 in Whaplode. She died 13/6/1843 in Steeple Bumpstead, Braintree. I am also interested in finding out where her husband William Walton died. He was born 6/9/1781.(I think in Whaplode or nearby)

If the husband lived after 1837, look for his death on GRO site, which gives age at death….and it’s FREE, and very easy to use

Many thanks Abby and Erika, I can't exactly recall how I found out re. Long Stanton but it is in my records (apologies coming back to this after a 10 year break!). Can we go back with her father, William Guylott? I am intrigued by the surname, think it is Norman, and also partly fascinated as these are my first ancestors in the south (nearly all of mine are Yorkshire). Elizabeth's husband, William Walton, died in 1807, but I don't know where? Any help most appreciated. Once again, thanks for all your help.

Elizabeth was baptised in Long Stanton (record posted yesterday by Abby).
It is a reasonable assumption that she was born there - but not 100% necessarily the case.

You say her husband William died in 1807.
If the Death Duties record posted by Maddie is for the correct William Walton, his residence was Pinchbeck, Lincolnshire.
Again, it's a reasonable assumption that that's where he died. It's unlikely that you'll find anything more accurate.

Ancestry suggests this burial record relates to those death duties:

William Walton
in the England, Select Deaths and Burials, 1538-1991
Name William Walton
Gender Male
Death Date abt 1807
Burial Date 27 Sep 1807
Burial Place Gosberton, Lincoln, England
FHL Film Number 1542011

Presumably the same William's apprenticeship indenture record:

Wm Walton
in the UK, Register of Duties Paid for Apprentices' Indentures, 1710-1811
Name Wm Walton
Payment Date 8 Aug 1795
Residence Location Gosberton, Lincoln
Notes Country Registers
Household (Name) Role
John Willerton Master (a mercer)
Wm Walton Apprentice

So, was it quite unusual for people to pay death duties back in the day?(1800s)
