"STOP HIM" CRY ENDS IN CAPTURE.

A scene in Lodge Lane, when a woman’s purse was stolen, was described in Liverpool police court, today.
George Hanson, aged 69, of no fixed address, was accused of stealing a purse containing 6s. from the person of Mrs. Henrietta Mutch, of Vicar Road, in Lodge Lane, yesterday. He pleaded guilty.
Mrs. Mutch said that at 4.30 p.m. yesterday, she and her four children were among a crowd waiting to board a tramcar at the corner of Lodge Lane and Smithdown Lane.
Being unable to get on the tramcar, which was full, she tried to go back to the footwalk when she felt a tug at her coat and found Hanson had his hand in her pocket.
He had hold of her purse. She grasped his hand but he wrenched it free and ran into Smithdown Lane. She ran after him, shouting "Stop that man."
Two men stopped Hanson and held him until the arrival of a police constable.
Hanson said he was not receiving relief of any kind, otherwise he would not have attempted to take the purse.
It was stated that Hanson had a long list of convictions for stealing purses and loitering with intent.
The Stipendiary Magistrate (Mr. Stuart Deacon), sentencing Hanson to one month’s hard labour, said he took his age into account.

Thank you so much. Henrietta was my grandad's sister.
There must've been a lot of it back then. I remember when I was about 14 my Nan and Grandad took me and my brother to a fairground and someone cut the strap on Nan's bag. She managed to hang onto the bag though.
Thanks again.
