If that tree's accurate, which I doubt, then Riley's birth must have been registered under his unknown (to us) mother's name - though I don't see any illegitimate Riley born 1936-38. (Apart from possibly one in Eton.)
Just for further elimination - this is the marriage of the parents of Riley N Smith, born in Leeds in 1937:
Marriages Sep 1935 (>99%) Cunningham Minnie Smith Thorne 9c 2332 Smith Riley Cunningham Thorne 9c 2332
They're all living together in Goole in 1960.
In 1939, Minnie and Riley senior are in Lincolnshire with 2 closed records.

If he married and the event was registered, his father's name should be on the cert
There is NO birth registration for Riley Smith with MMN Geddes.
This is that marriage.............. Marriages Mar 1939 (>99%) Geddes Elsie Smith Sunderland 10a 827 Smith John T C Geddes Sunderland 10a 827
That 'tree' looks very imaginative, to say the least......

I assume you mean the birth certificate.
With luck, the DOB on the birth cert will match that on the death cert - though the DOB on a death cert depends on what the informant believed it to be.

Good morning.
Thanks for the information. Very useful. Not the easiest name to research - SMITH ha ha! I think I'll order the death certificate for the Hartlepool Smith as the mother's name 'Edith' fits.
Thankyou for all your info.

As he died in 1984, one would expect his record - if there ever was one - to be open in 1939.
EDIT
Have searched using 'Smith, male and DoB’. Nothing………..
For INFO……..MMN is not on any records other than birth certs.

A possible brother, William H E Smith, was born April/May/June1939
As Greyghost says, there's nothing definite in 1939. If that's the right family, there should be two closed records with the parents - as neither of the children's names comes up with a 1939 entry -- but I don't see such a family.
If they were travellers, perhaps they just weren't listed - though presumably that would mean they didn't have ID, ration books, etc.

Good evening
Could anyone please do a 1939 register check for me?
Its for a Riley Smith b12/10/37. Died 1984 in Bradford. Not sure where he was in 1939. It may have been Hartlepool or Yorkshire (I found 2 possible births). We understand his mother was called 'Edith'.
Riley was a traveller so l we know little about his family. Please could I ask for details of where he was living and who was also at the address including his mother's maiden name if that shows.
Many thanks for any information Cassie :-)
