Alfred DAVIES b. Madley, Herefordshire married Hannah PARRY in 1886 in Bridgend R.O. ( I have cert.)

By 1911, Alfred is a widower and although not required, he has recorded the number of children born and those still living.
4 sons were still living and again Alfred has recorded them, although the eldest William A. has been crossed through, as he is in fact married and in a different household.
The other 3 sons are home with Alfred.
Staggeringly, Alfred records that 9 children have died.

Is there any way of finding these lost children other than going through GRO for births then deaths of DAVIES children with mmn PARRY.?

FREEBMD suggests this was a fairly common union in Wales !!

I don't think there's any 'short cut'

BUT.......MMN isn't on the death reg, so the only foolproof solution is to obtain certs

When did Hannah die? That will limit the timescale

On the marriage certificate, Hannah's father is shown as Edgar, a carpenter, but I have never found them together.

In fact I've had threads long ago looking for Hannah to no avail, partly because she is shown with at least 3 different birthplaces, when she is with Alfred.

Although DAVIES / PARRY is not a unique pairing, I can see some good 'possibles' in the birth list, where known family names are being used.

I have rather neglected this line, but have just found a descendant of William Alfred via Ancestry family trees.
I am hoping she knows information about this family, but I know that there is at least one later DAVIES to DAVIES marriage!!

I personally knew Daniel b. 1895.who married his cousin.....

Census shows a huge gap between William and Daniel, so many of the deceased are likely to be in between them.

Unfortunately, after my laptop crashed, I have not yet got all my family history notes to hand, but I recall that Hannah died after childbirth and that child ( a girl, I think)died too.
All this was in Bridgend registration district.

I will look for notes and certs.I might already have.

There were only five marriages of a male Davies to a female Parry in Bridgend RD 1880-1911.

Of course, not all Davies/Parry children born in Bridgend 1886-1911 had parents who were also married in Bridgend.

I wrongly remembered details of Hannah's death, but she did die the same week as a baby daughter.

( was this the child recorded as Inez, a name which appears in their extended family? )

Hannah DAVIES died 11 August 1910 aged 43 wife of Alfred DAVIES, a haulier.

both of 9 Chapel Street, Pontcymmer.

I was alerted to the child's death by wonderful staff at the Bridgend Office, who noticed the 2 entries together with the same address, when I sought help finding Hannah's death.

What sadness in that family.

Yes, I would agree that Ivy May is almost certainly Inez May - though you'd need the birth cert to confirm.
