Anita Report 5 Sep 2020 13:08

I am trying to find my great grandmother's maternal ancestors. She was born Florence Madeline Adey in 1868. Her father was Edward Linnell Adey and her mother was Bertha Ann Hurrion born in 1833 in South Borough, Tonbridge Wells, Kent. Florence had an In Memoriam card for a Charlotte Hurrion who was obviously a family member but I cannot find much information on either Bertha Ann or Charlotte. Can anyone help please

Name: James Turner Hurrion
Gender: Male
Record Type: Marriage
Marriage Date: 12 Jan 1829
Marriage Place: St Marylebone, Westminster, England

Witnesses both named Massey

Based on GRO births - as posted - there are two possible maiden names for Charlotte - can't see, at the moment, which is the more likely

Clearly, Stuart fits with regard to birthplace.....................

Someone with a tree on Ancestry is equally unsure - he has put both surnames in for Charlotte

Thank you for that information. The card that I have shows Charlotte's death as 16th July 1882 and her age was 96 years. She was my great, great, great Grandmother.

I have a cousin researching on Ancestry and she is as confused as I am regarding
Charlotte. There seem to be several different dates of birth and the confusion about the maiden name. Someone else is saying that Bertha's name was Harrison!!

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 5 Sep 2020 16:31

Harrison is how it was transcribed on the marriage I posted at the top of this thread...................simply an error.

Charlotte's surname was recorded as Dewey when she married - as posted above

Ignore what other people 'say'

Check factual records - such as the GRO website

Possibly a previous marriage for Charlotte?

Good find Christina. I’d been looking for a possible previous marriage - without success- as it seemed the most logical explanation for the two different MMN’s on the birth registrations

The witnesses to the 1817 marriage were William Hiddon (looks like) and Elizabeth Bolger (Badger ??).
