Any help in finding James Yandell born 1848 in Bristol on the 1891 census.
His wife was Mary.
Their children with their ages in 1891 would be Fred 16 Anne 15 Clara 10 John 10 James 9 William 4 and Richard 2.

I have them in 1881 at 4 hotwells road and in 1901 at 6 Gilbert Street but struggling to find them in 1891.

Any help please

Rose ...............

one tip for when you can't find a family.

Use the forenames only.

Choose a child, enter forename, birth year +/-2, county of birth

Then enter mother's forename, date of birth +/-2, county of birth

Enter father's forename, date of birth +/-2, county of birth

Enter a sibling's forename as above, if there is one that would be alive.

Then search only on those parameters ................ I'm betting that that is what Rambling did, as it is what I would do.

Hi SylviainCanada. Thanks. i have just looked at Ancestry search a for the first person you can put in forename birth year and county of birth but for any additions I can only seem to enter their forename nothing else. However I entered the details that I was searching for and eventually found it but that was knowing from Rambling that there was a spelling error on surname. I tried it for another part of the family I was searching in the 18771 census and no joy. thats was Ann Yandell born 1837 bristol with husband Isaac davies born 1830 in dudley. with three children Walter born 1856 in Manchester William 1859 in bristol and James 1861 in bath. I still could not see anything relevant so I think i must be doing something incorrectly.
Thanks for the suggestion though I will try it with any other one I am struggling with and might have some success

Rose ........

did you also try using the wild card * as a replacement for 1 or more missing letters, especially for names that can be spelled different ways (or mis-spelled)??

eg
Ann* ............. in case of Anne / Annie /Anny
Isa*c
Ja*s

Finding home in 1881 is great and they are together although the sons are of an age when they usually have left home so its great to have that information. I couldn't find them in 1871 or 1891 and Isaac appears to change to Josiah in 1881 so will still hunt for them thanks
Also great to know they had four more children as well. I will get there in the end. Again thanks for all your help

In 1871 they should be in Bath, going by the children's birthplaces and dates, but I can't see any of them, in spite of trying all the usual tricks.

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 24 Apr 2019 21:02

No sign in 1871

There are a few 'permanent gaps' in the records, but none of them is for Bath
