John Edward Leach was born 2 March 1864 to parents Joseph Henry Leach and Martha Ireland in Liverpool. I have him up to 1881 census where he's living with his parents, age 17, working as a dock labourer. I can't find anything after that.

John Edward was the brother of my great grandfather ... the James Leach shown above.

It looks like the USA connection might be correct, as two of his brothers went to Philadelphia - William and Robert Joseph. Maybe he went to California first then to Philadelphia.
