Aww thank you all for your help got a wealth of information here to digest :-) i think I'm just going to have to presume that Ashantinus was somehow related to Urse most probably his brother I've been trying to find anything that says they are related .I know Ashantinus witnessed a charter for Bishop Flambard regarding Islandshire and also Norham and that Urse was also close to a Ranulf Flambard possibly the same Flambard .It's just difficult when the English scribed the surname of this man from Latin also known as De Wygomia Wycester .... Thank you all x |

Wow ! Thank you all so much I'm so grateful all your help it really ,really is appreciated ! How ironic that my own county is Warwickshire and the Eblom is the Bear and STaff of Urse ! There's a snippet on John Hogsons history of Northumberland about " the eminent house of Swinburne " sorry I can't paste it for some reason ,which states we are related to a lot of Normandy folk that helped conquer England. The despencer brother of Urse is Princess Di family and Winston Churchills direct line. I wonder then if Urse had 2 other brothers one of them could be possibly be Ashantinus de Wirecestre who the founder the Swinburne line in Northumberland which is my direct line .If so this could possibly tie in with the Tankerville link ? :-S :-) |

URSE d'Abetot (fl. 1086), sheriff of Worcestershire, derived his name from St. Jean d'Abbetot, near Tancarville (Seine Inférieure). He appears in ‘Domesday’ as a tenant-in-chief in the counties of Gloucester, Worcester, Hereford, and Warwick, being also styled in it ‘Urso de Wirecestre’ (f. 169 b) from his office as sheriff of Worcestershire. William of Malmesbury, describing him as ‘Vicecomes Wigorniæ a rege constitutus,’ tells the story of his encroaching on the cemetery of Worcester Abbey to make his castle ditch, and of his stern rebuke for it by Archbishop Ealdred: ‘ |

Hi all I wonder if anyone can help me with this Medieval mystery .My family line is the Swinburne from Northumberland they took the territorial name of Swinburn in the early 12 th century .The family's forefathers were Pagan De Wirecestre ,Radulf and his father was Ashantinus De Wirecestre who apparently came over with the conquest. Would I be right in thinking that he could be related to Urse De Abetot (Wirecestre)who was Sheriff of Worcester.i have read on think it was John Hodgsons landed gentry that the Swinburnes were related to the Herons ,Radcliffes ,Widdringtons well most of the Northumbrian great families. But the name of Wirecestre keeps coming to Urse ! I would be so grateful if there is any medieval knowledge or links to Ashantinus and Urse . :-S |
