Recieved big wad of notes from the MoD about my Scottish grandad George Frizzell.

Laird Report 27 Jun 2016 21:33

So today i was amazed to get an pm from a genesreunited member who is the son of George Frizzell's sister (Grandad George had a sister!) and he has confirmed that George was indeed married previously and that therefore my Mother has a sister somewhere in Greenock......that's if she's still alive. However he also confirmed that George Frizzell did indeed see military service during WW2.

This one looks interesting too-

I know George married in the Durham area in 1951 so he was clearly in the North of England.

The initials tally up for Harry

A Frizzel 2928789 Private 1943 Cameron Highlanders??? Maybe...

I'll investigate further...

You can buy a copy of military records, from 1920 onwards, but you need to know the person's service number, as well as their full name and DOB - so no use in your situation. Unless you can find the service number from the site above.

Try this website:
www.forces-war-records.co.uk

This site lists people who survived the war, as well as those who died.

You can search free, but then to see the details of any of the basic results you'll need to subscribe - one month's sub is £8.95.

NOTE: If you don't want to continue after the month, remember to cancel your sub, or it will renew automatically.

A free search for Harry brings up these results. I have no idea if any of them could be your Harry .

Oh i've hit a brick wall here.....I think you can't obtain Military records after 1922 as these are held by the MoD.

Laird

Laird Report 6 Jun 2016 22:16

ArgyllGran thanks very much i've now with your help found the records for my grandparents marriage and my grandmother Stella birth.

Your a star! :-D

Any ideas how I would find if either of my grandads Harry Leonard Simms or George Alexander Lever Frizzell would have been drafted into service during WW2?

Laird

Laird Report 6 Jun 2016 16:56

Or maybe not because Stella was previously married. I think her surname was Day?

Laird

Laird Report 6 Jun 2016 16:55

1955 seems possible. So that would be Harry Leonard Simms and Stella Hawkins.

I'm assuming when you say you're looking for Harry & Leonard's [EDIT: I mean Stella's ! ] marriage license you mean marriage certificate??

Greyghost posted it on page 1 of this long thread.
I'll repeat it here:

How would I find out if my Grandads Harry Leonard Simms or George Alexander Lever Frizzell had military records? They both would have been of age for service in WWII???

Laird

Laird Report 21 May 2016 15:15

Thank you ArgyllGran, you've been a star in assisting me locate family records.

My next project is to locate my grandad Harry Leonard Simms & Stella Hawkins marriage license.

Thanks for all the useful info! I discovered I already have the marriage license of Amanda Matilda Elison and Frank Henry Simms (my great grandparents) and also their birth certificates!

My grandad Harry Leonard Simms is proving much harder, where records a bit more patchy in 1914 I wonder?

All I could obtain so far is this-

http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/nn229/kornflakes77/1993%20Harry%20Leonard%20Simms%20Death%20Certificate_zpsjgbmwbwy.jpg

I figure there has to be a record of his birth and marriage to my grandmother Stella.
