My G grandfather came to Australia prior to 1901, I believe from Copenhagen. His name was George Joachim Frederik Marius SCHMAHL. He married my G grandmother in Melbourne, Vic in 1901, Isabella Betancor. My grandmother was born in Melbourne Oct 1901 - Florence Astrid Schmahl.

Thanks, I will try those sites. I don't think that George would have any living ancestors with the name Schmahl as he only had daughters. I also have the impression that he travelled to Australia by himself, maybe a sailor.

You can see her surname follows the naming pattern - her father's surname was Jorgensen but hers is Henriksen, from his first given name Henrik! From this you could assume her grandfather's first name was Jorgen.
