Trying to help friend. Frank Batty born Hull 1875 Married Emmeline who died hull July 1940 He is believed to have died in the London Blitz but no further info Could anyone be so kind as to find his death for us.

Not seeing a death for him on the CWGC site. or indeed a death for a Frank / Francis Batty c 1940

he isnt showing on the CWGC site

I have a relative named Frank Batty, born in Hull 2nd October 1875. He moved to the East End of London, where it is rumoured he loaned brrows out to the Pearly KIngs. It is thought he died in the WW 2 blitz. He is rumoured to have had 2 sons who opened night clubs in the East End.

Daniel Batty b. 18/08/1850 marr. Elizabeth Stokell 05/10/1872 they had 11 children.

b)Frank Batty b. 02/10/1875 Moved to East End London.


My great grandfather was Frank Batty a boot and shoemaker who married Emmeline James(b. 1871 Hull) in 1897. The only official record (the 1901 census) shows his birth as Hull 1872 and he therefore cannot be Frank born 1875 son of Daniel, the subject of a number of messages.

Emmeline's family, however, were originally from London and indeed provide the shoemaking connection via her grandfather William Augustus (b. 1806). Frank appears in the Hull Directory of 1893 with two addresses and family legend claims that he had three shoeshops in the early 1900s and lost them through gambling. His son Harold (b. Hull 1900; d. 1964), having had a nursemaid (along with his sister Ivy May b. Hull 1899; d.1987) ended up working on the railways and living in a council house. There are believed to have been 11 other children of which I can find no confirmed record.
This would suggest that we are not related. (I am the daughter of Harold's only child Francis b. Hull 1933; d. Newport Gwent 1974). It would be interesting to know, however, if you have found any more clues about Frank. I have identified a 'Frank' born 1872 but he is from a coffee house-keeping set of Battys from Bow and so not born in Hull as 'my' Frank is.

There was another Frank Batty born Stockport 1875 Whose wife Eliza died in Bury in 1966...so I would have thought that was his death not the one born Yorkshire
