Wow! I didn't expect to get so many answers so quickly. On other genealogical websites I haven't had a single reply in many years, so I'm grateful for all your efforts. The 1911 census with the Medhurst family is definitely my Great Grandfather. His parents were indeed John and Charlotte Wilson of Deptford. I'm staggered that people have made the connection with Stanley and Florence Wilson at the Shirley Schools as this is my Great Uncle Stanley Arthur Wilson 1904-1985 and Grandmother Annie Florence Wlson 1903-1994. My Great Grandmother Henrietta Rose Wilson nee Cornwell was indeed at 12 Lockwood Road in 1911 and died in January 1913. Her other remaining children were Henry Wilson 1909-1910 at 26 Slippers Place Rotherhithe and George Thomas Wilson 1907-1991. However I'm afraid that Sue hit the main problem in that I've been unable to find a death, marriage or travel passage register for either a James Thomas, or Thomas James Wilson in the period after 1911. Part of the problem is the name change but also the popularity of the surname of Wilson. Unless I can find evidence to the contrary I will have to conclude that he enlisted in The Great War of 1914-18 and that he died and his records were lost in the fire that engulfed the War dept in 1940. There are any number of records in the medal index and the various rolls of honour that could relate to him. However I won't know this with any certainty til the 1921 census is published. In the meantime I am grateful for all your efforts and if you find anything please let me know. Thank You. |

If Thomas is in Deptford in 1911, and Henrietta Rose is with her parents & siblings in Bermondsey, where are the 3 surviving children? What are their names? |

I am interested in tracing the history of my Great Grandfather, who was born James Thomas Wilson on the 26th December 1878 in Deptford, London.Sometime in the 1890's he switched his name to Thomas James Wilson. He worked in various jobs including being a general laborer and factory hand, but more specifically as a Printers Cutter. |
