Hi Andrew,
Found a Joseph Bound September 1845 NSW newspaper as a passenger on the barque Mount Stewart Elphinstone Holton for Calcutta. He was noted as a Groom as the ship also had horses aboard.

Fantastic - that's him. Do you have more info, future life in Ausralia, wife, descendents etc ? The interseting thing is the surname of the man he was released to - Tucker is anonther surname in the village of Pill where Joseph Bound was from, several marriages took place later in 19th century + 20th between Tucker families and Bound families and my gndmother who was gt gnd dtr of this Joseph's brother lived c1926-1980 next door to her cousin who married a Sam Tucker
Only stealing 3 spoons is a bit of a let down though, the story made it seem like hundreds of pounds !!
Andy Miles, Nailsea, N Somerset - 4 miles from where Joseph was from

Hi Andrew,
Do you know Joseph's parents names. ?
Patricia.

Andrew

Andrew Report 2 May 2013 13:39

Parents were Richard B or D Bound , Waterman + Mariner, b 1876 + d1864 both Pill, Somerset + Mary nee Craddy b1785/6 (or poss 1790/1) + d 1852 both Pill
I have her family back 2 more generations, but can take the Bound line back 5 or 6 generations to their arrival in Bristol 1610, probably from Kington, W Herefordshire + E Radnorshire

Hi Andrew,
Thanks for that info. I see on Joseph's convict records that he was married with 2 children. Do you know his wife's and children's names and what become of them after he was sent to Australia.
I still haven't found anything more on him.
Regards,
Patricia.

Patricia.

I'm thinking that Joseph might have stayed in India as I can't seem to find any more information on him.

I searched Trove last night and couldn't find any death notice or any other articles about him at all.

What do you think?

Hi Gai,
Yes I am thinking the same thing. I also searched Trove with no result. I searched NSW BDM also other states in Australia with no luck.
If we could find out his wife's name maybe she left England to be with him. Only guessing!!!!

Just had a poke around Family search for a marriage and came up empty handed. Also nothing on the Somerset Parish records.

Hopefully Andrew can gives us some more clues.

Gai,
I was just wondering if he may have gone back to England. Anyway we will wait for Andrew to reply and then go from there.

Sorry, all I had was the legend and the gap in the births for that family for 1813-17
If he married in Pill, also called St George, Bedminster at the time, then the church record should be in Somerset Record Office, Taunton and I will expect to be able to visit to search for it there sometime during the next 4-5 months - but he could have married in Bristol of ccourse
