Hi,

I wonder if anyone visiting the above would be kind enough to look up the death of my great-grandfather, Thomas ELLIS. He died between the 1901 and 1911 censuses and I have narrowed it down to two possibilities:-

Oct-Nov-Dec 1904, Birmingham, Warwickshire, Volume 6d, Page 91; Thomas ELLIS, Age 34 (1870)

Jul-Aug-Sep 1903, Birmingham, Warwickshire, Volume 6d, Page 123; Thomas ELLIS, Age 32 (1871)

All I am after is the date, the address he was living at and the name of the person who reported the death so that I can order the correct certificate.

Many thanks in advance.

I had a situation where a death in Wakefield area showed the correct name, but family information suggested that the man had died in the south of England ( with Yorkshire ancestry)

I rang the Register Office and although they won't tell you the information on the certificate I was able to tell them he was a clerk or similar and possible informants names and they told me it was indeed the correct person and I ordered the certificate then and there over the phone.

Some offices are more helpful than others, but it would be worth contacting them.

The Probate above is for a death which pre-dates the possibilities suggested by the OP, and is probably this one...............

Deaths Jun 1901 (>99%)

Did the man's widow re-marry?

Thanks all for your helpful comments.

My Thomas Ellis was a Gun Maker and in 1901 his address was 3 New John Street West, Birmingham.

His widow did not re-marry and died in 1950.

I'll try your suggestion Gwyn and see what happens ...

Cheers.

P.S. Probate would have gone to Thomas or Alfred Ellis, not Charles.

If you decide to ring the Register Office in B´ham, have a word with John Yates, the resident genealogist.
He´s really helpful
