Hello I have a big ask to all of you helpful people out there - you have helped in the past and I think I have found the right chap (eventually) thanks to the help and guidance of a lot of people.

I am trying to find out more about him and his mother i.e. did she eventually marry? etc Any ideas where I can go to find the records of the relevant church? Any help to find out who she was and who her parents were and does she fit in with the Petty families of High Ham Somerset?
As for him I believe him to be my Great Great Grandad (he appears to have been evasive with his exact place of birth it varied from Dorset to Frome in Somerset depending on which census he and his family were doing!). On his marriage certificate he says his father is John Petty (a Yeoman) - I wonder if he was being a bit "flowery" about his heritage if he was actually the John baptised is Stoke Lane?
He and his sons did go on to become carriers and carters in the town of Shaftesbury in Dorset and were recorded in the trade directories of the time.
There are a few other John Petty's but this is the only one who's birth fits with my John's death certificate in 1890 aged 78.

In 1881 Census John is a Carrier by trade. He and Mary A Petty, and his sons Albert and George are all living at Bimport Street, Shaftesbury.
His death is registered by his daughter Emily Petty on 7 Aug 1890 - Registrar was Mr Norton.
Given age is 78 and occuation was Parcel Delivery Agent.
