Hello,

I wonder if anybody could help my g grandfather James William Taylor - who's christening I have found 07 Jul 1889 in Flixton, Urmston (family search) showing his parent as Ann Taylor - I am struggling to get beyond his parents as there is a 1901 census with them in Reddish - Henry Taylor & Ann Taylor showing as parents.

I cant find a birth though for James, the 1901 census I cant make out the age for Henry on viewing the census as on they typed page it says 82! and on the census it looks like 62/52 - I can't find a marriage for Henry and Ann.

Wondered really if anybody could please at least be able to confirm anything?

Thanks in advance
Julie

Hello Julie - who does James William name as his father on his marriage certificate?

Usually, if only a mother is named on a baptism it implies he is illegitimate.

Hi, I am going to have to get the marriage certificate - most of the time you can find information on line but there are times when an actual certificate is needed.

Don't rely on the man's marriage cert. Any father he named could have been imaginary

The baptism definitely shows him to have been illegitimate

Have you looked for/found him in 1891?

1911 Census: Henry Taylor states marriage 23 years previous to census. So: 1888.
Of course, may have been 'creative' in that statement!
