Reggie, I think it may have something to do with money - there was a pension awarded of 10s 6d a week on 1/1/1917 to be paid to the wife according to the military record!

Frederick Springsguth military record has him enlisting in 1907 as posted by Mike. He was promoted to corporal (in the field) 18/6/1916, and was wounded and died 21/6/1916.

Also from his record, his personal effects were to be sent to Minnie Alice Springsguth of 42 Mayfield Rd, Gosport, Hants and there is a recipt for them from her dated 2/9/1916. The name/address was then changed 12/9/1919 to Minnie Alice Tomlin of 6 Mill Road, Snodland, Kent.

M A Tomlin signed receipts for his 1914-15 Star medal 14/8/20, Br War medal 19/11/20 and Victory medal 9/2/21.

So, unless it was a very long pregnancy I doubt the son posted earlier in the thread was Fredericks!! ;-)

I have been given a marriage date of 27/9/1916 for John William Tomlin to Alice Wooding in West Malling Kent, but have searched several marriage indexes and it does not appear to be in any I know the name Wooding is correct because they had 10 plus children all with the mums maiden name Wooding which i have checked. John William Tomlin was born on 28th January 1892 ( i have his birth certificate ) Any help or suggestions greatly received Thanks Pam
