Andrew,

That has answered my query. The local vicar did not perform the marriage or christening. So when the Rev.Pinney saw the entries he made the correction. Coleshill was a small town so he would have been aware of the situation.

Thank you

Sheila

maybe the child was born before they married but christened after. Then it was discovered this was the case so a vicar amended the record.

Its likely the husband wasn't the child's father but they tried to have the child christened as if he was .

Have you tried looking for a birth in the mums maiden name.

If you post the details we can take a look and maybe find an explaination

Can anyone explain this please?

I have a Parish Record entry for a Christining in 1888. Orginally the entry was in the father's and mother's names. The father's name and surname was crossed out and the mother's maiden name entered with "single woman" The correction was made by the local vicar who did not perform the christening.

The parents were married in 1887 in the same church. I cannot find a birth entry for the child.

Thank you
