Well here is Thomas in the 1881. His wife is shown as Anna and although the transcription shows as a J, it doesn't resemble a 'J' or an 'L'. What it does give us though is that Thomas and Anna/ie were together by 1881

This census fits with the marriage you found. I can't find another reasonable match so it probably won't be a risk to get the marriage cert.

I think you need to look for an alternative marriage. I'll have a look for you in a mo.

Praise be to the enumerators who write clearly. It is most definitely Annie L age 38 born c 1853. The formation of the 'L' also matches to the entry for their daughter Lousia and to 'lodgers' in households on that page.

Anna - have you checked the original census image for Anna's initial. The names Annie and Anna are interchangeable (along with Ann, Hannah, Nan, etc)

I'd expect John would be a child in 1891 if he was born 1885?

But to be sure that the father is Thomas, so you don't follow the wrong line with such a common name, you must get John's marriage certificate.

Im trying to find the father of John Green born 1885 in Westhampnett. I believe its Thomas Green born in 1850 but when ive found a marriage for Thomas its says he married a Anna Jane Marner(1872),but when im looking on the1891 census it says that he's married to Annie L Green and John is a child,can anyone help me please,regards anna
