I'm looking for my Bridgewater ancestors probably from Handsworth, Birmingham

My ggg grandfather was called John Yates Bridgewater, born 1830 and buried 16/10/1867 in Aston, Warks. He married Helen Greenwood and was a wine and spirits merchant. I can't find his parents nor his wife's parents.

As far as I can make out they had 5 children:
Helen Mary christened 22/08/1856 St Mary's Handsworth
Alice Maude born 18/07/1858 christened 11/02/1859 St Mary's Handsworth (my gg grand-mother)
Emma Catherine born 09/12/1859 christened 29/06/1860 St Mary's Handsworth
John Benjamin christened 25/07/1862 St Michaels Handsworth
Alfred christened 24/09/1864 St Michaels Handsworth.

Any help would be most appreciated!

Thanks a million! This is really helping. Do I presume that that they were pub owners? I read somewhere that in general wine and spirits merchant meant a pub owner in those days?

Not sure - I think a wine merchant was the same as now. But the link makes it quite a strong possibility doesn't it?
To be sure you need his marriage cert really.

Just a footnote - in 1861 he was a victualler, not a merchant.

Just wondering why there were so many people in the Bridgewater household on the 1851 census?

I'll amend the 1851 putting relationships.
Just bear with me!
