Hi There,
Does anyone know anything about Simon and Moses Hewitt. Born in the 1830's I don't know where. They Mined for gold in Naseby New Zealand. They first appeared on the N.Z. electoral rolls in 1885. Simon married Elizabeth Beatty in 1871 I would love to know where. They had several children one being Joseph. he was born round 1874 I presume in Naseby I don't really know and married Maria Agnes Rumble in 1900, I don't know where ! One of their sons was William Richard Hewitt I would love to know more of him and also Philip he apparently drowned at sea but very vague on him too, he may have been in the 2nd world war. If anyone can help me I would be most thrilled.

With Thanks,
Ceedee

Isn't there an online database for NZ BMD's?

If there is, that's where to search for the info you're asking for.

Only someone connected would 'know' anything about these people..............

.....................try 'search all trees'

an old thread on rootsweb

http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/GENANZ/2001-04/0986803240

Simon HEWITT, eldest son of Samuel HEWITT, born c1838 Lurgan, Co.
Armagh, Ireland, emigrated to Otago N.Z.
He married 18 Oct 1871 at St Paul's Church, Dunedin, Elizabeth BEATTY,
daughter of grocer Richard BEATTY. Elizabeth also born Lurgan, Co.
Armagh, c 1840.

There are strong indications Simon HEWITT is descended from people who
lived in Ballynamoney, Seagoe parish, Armagh, part of the Brownlow
Estate.

Simon, a miner, and Elizabeth, lived most of their lives in Naseby,
Otago and are buried in the cemetery there.

Simon died in 1915 and Elizabeth in 1922.

Would like to hear from anybody researching this HEWITT family or any
descendant of the couple. I have some more information on N.Z.
descendants, but only a little on the Irish side

Simon HEWITT, born c838 Lurgan, Co. Armagh, Ireland, married 18 Feb 1871 at Saint Paul's Church, Dunedin, New Zealand, Elizabeth BEATTY, "2nd daughter of Richard BEATTY [also from Lurgan, a grocer]. Simon died 23 Feb 1915, Naseby, Otago, N.Z. Simon was "eldest son of Samuel HEWITT".
Elizabeth came to N.Z. c1870 and died 1922 at Naseby. Couple had children Elizabeth, Joseph, Margaret, Simon, Mary and Moses.
I believe these HEWITTs came from Ballynamoney townland, parish of Seagoe, Co.Armagh but don't have proof.
I have some more info. A connection with your HEWITT seems likely.

You would need to investigate the accuracy of this yourself but gives yous a starting point.
