Hello. I am new to the site, so hoping I am writing this correctly for everyone. I am trying to find the marriage of my G. Grandfather's parents. Thomas Henry Green (G Grandfather, b. 20/10/1885, 193 Great Bridge Street, West Bromwich), I have his Birth Certificate - on it his mother is listed as "Elizabeth Green, formally Strathern". I have found some 'Strathern' in Glasgow; and I know his father is Thomas Green (born c 1848 in Wolverhampton). I cannot however find a marriage between Thomas Green and Elizabeth Strathern; and therefore am really unsure that the Glasgow census returns for Elizabeth Strathern are the correct ones (need her fathers name). On Census, Elizabeth's birth place are listed as follows: 1881: Scotland, 1891: Portabello, Ireland & 1901: Glasgow, Scotland. So I am confused and would love someone to be able to tell me where I am going wrong, and I do understand that they may never have been married. :) |

Point taken, I see her birthplace is Ireland in 1891. How likely is it Thomas would have travelled to either place do you think? |

Is this one you had your eye on - in view of Ireland/Scotland combination? |

I have been into 'Scotland's People' but drew nothing further there...so the only link to Scotland and Ireland I have are the census... |

Not sure about Thomas in 1871, there is a single man - Boarder (West Brom I think).... but again wasn't sure and to be honest focussed on the marriage I can't find) and Elizabeth in Scotland.... |

When you looked on Scotlandspeople did you select "surname variants". The most common spelling would probably be Strathearn. |

Oh goodness. Ok, I didn't know that. Thank-You. I will consider that when I next get to dive into everything. Cheers Rootgatherer, and you too Brummiejan. I have to go to bed now, have to get up and get to work tomorrow, rent to earn and all that. |
