anyone know how adoption records can be searched? my grandfather was adopted as a youngster and wanted to look into that side of my family?

you'll have to find out his birth name first. when was he born? was the adoption official or informal?

( they cant be searched without a birth name)

thanks, im not sure if it was offical or not it would have been around 1922-1926 im not sure if he was born the name we knew him of and i dont know if there is a way to find out?

Pretty sure Official adoptions did not start until 1927,so there is not likely to be any paperwork for him if he was adopted before then.

As far as I am aware Official adoption papers can only be accessed by the adoptee,& if the adoptee is now deceased it cannot be accessed by anyone else?.

What name did you know him by? Have you checked to see if there is a birth for that name in the birth index for when you think he was born? Do you know what his birth date was?

Joan is right about official adoptions starting in 1927 so I doubt you would find any records of the adoption and in any case you would not have access to them.

Even if there were records, only the adoptee would be able to access them.

What do you mean by 'that' side of the family?

Have you researched his natural line?
