He received his first certificate of freedom in 1832 but, according to the images on Ancestry, he had to surrender that as it was mutilated. Hence the later certificate in 1838.

His crime was "Larceny in a Dwelling House"

Was Ann Cadman his second wife?
There are various records on the NSW convict index referring to a James Hindhaugh who arrived on the Baring in 1819.
He received a ticket of exemption from Government labour to reside with his wife Ann Smith (per Lord Sidmouth 3) for life.
His ticket of leave states born in Northumberland in 1798, trade - gardener, tried in Newcastle on Tyne 1818.

Hi all,
I have come to a dead end (sic) the above named was sent for trial in Northumberland, England, 1st August 1818 and sentenced to death, I have not been able to find out the crime. What I have foung out is that he was transported to Australia in December 1818 on the Prison ship Baring and to the colony of Sailor, so I assume his sentence was comuted and transported.
I have found out that he married a Ann Cadman on 09th July 1824 in New South Wales.
What I want to know is what his crime was, or information on where I can find out
