Who were his parents? Maybe they had moved to the Blackpool area by the time he died or a sweetheart??

Google -http://www.yell.com/s/cemeteries-blackpool-lancashire.html

gives a heading Friends of Layton Cemetery
Talbot Road, Blackpool 01253 399982 and the option to visit their websitehttp://www.layton-friends.org/

They may be able to help you

His parents were Ernest Botterill & Florence.
Florence died & he remarried Ellen.

Just carnt work out his registration in Lewisham London, but either buried in Blackpool or just a memorial headstone.

I think you will find that is the place where he is buried,as far as i am aware the CWGC only erect headstones as place of burial, not as a memorial to the person not buried there

Im not sure of the registration in Lewisham perhaps the death certificate will provide the answer, perhaps the RAF registered the death.

For further info., the War Graves Photographic project have photographed his headstone, which you can obtain copies, see the link for details.

The CWGC info that Shirley posted shows that it his grave that is in Blackpool and not a memorial.

I'm not too sure about these things but could it be that if it was a war death then it was registered by his regiment somewhere centrally, i.e. London?

Getting a copy of the death cert may give more info.

surely if Robert died in April 1941 his death would be registered in the June quarter not Sept???

Blackpool was a training area for the RAF. I wonder if he died there and was buried fairly quickly but the RAF registered the death later.

I think you will probably need that death certificate to solve the mystery
