Thank you so much for all of your help, I'm still pretty new to this and it was so frustrating being unable to find any earlier records. With everyone's input, I've managed to go back another generation

I have looked on another couple of heritage sites and have found that on the 1861 census there is a Samuel Nicholds born about 1856 with his father Ralph and mother Eliza in Sedgley. You can track Ralph and Eliza later on in the 1881 census. Also, in the familysearch website you can find Samuel's christening record on the 26th October 1856 in sedgley showing Ralph and Eliza as parents. There is another son Joseph who is also christened in 1854 who's birthday is 19th March 1854 to parents Ralph Barnett Nicholds and Eliza.

There are several ebties in 1861/71 censuses with very simalr names. Without nore info caannot indenify correct family. Would suggest that you purchase his marriage cert to see if that helps.

Hi I was wandering if anyone could help me as I seem to have hit a brick wall. I can find records of Samuel Nicholds on the 1881, 1891,1901 and 1911 censuses, but I can't seem to find any information about him prior to 1881. In 1881 he was 25 married with one child living in the Sedgley, woodsetton area. I was hoping by locating him on the 1871 census I would be able to find out about his parents and siblings but as hard as I try I can't find an earlier record of him. Can anyone give me any help or advice on where to look next.
