Thank you both for your replies. I will look on Hampshire Record Office and see if they list bastardy orders. |

My neighbour has asked for my help on a problem he has. An ancestor Dorothy Gertrude Elcock was born in 1906 in The Gardens (the workhouse) in Romsey, Hampshire. It is obvious from her birth cert that she is illegitimate. Obviously he would love to find the name of the father and we are wondering where, if there was a bastardy order taken out, would we be able to access the information on there as we understand the father's name would appear on it ? I have looked on the Romsey FH site and found no reference to bastardy orders. Were they still in force in 1906 do you know. Thanks for any help/thoughts on how to progress further - if that is actually possible. |
