yep, it's back - I wonder if those of us who have registered will eventually have access to the site through that registration and will we get a different format for searching?

Newfamilysearch is not the same as familysearch.org.
Newfamilysearch is a new project which is in the testing stage and I think I'm right in saying that at present it's only open to members of the Mormon Church.
You can try and register for newfamilysearch but you won't get anywhere (unless you are a Mormon). As far as I know, registering is still optional for the normal site.

Haven't had to register and just tried and got straight in but when searching got :

We are unable to display information due to technical difficulties. Please try in a few minutes.

Have been having problems with it for a few days. Takes ages to connect & when it does, it brings up all sorts of info apart from what I´ve asked for, eg ask for marriages & get several pages of baptisms, ask for UK & get America.
Used to love this site, but along with most of my friends, have virtually given up on it since the changes.
The 1st time I used it after the changes, I was told to register, which I did & waited for confirmation. That was several months ago & I´m still waiting. Never heard another word.

you now have to register to use Family Search - I have registered but cannot yet access the site and have been advised to look out for advice as to when I can access it!!!!
