I have just started doing my family tree and the free 1911 census gave me all that I have but now I am stuck. I thought by paying to join GR that you would be able to look at any record but now I find that I have to use 5 credits each time. This will cost a fortune as 9 times out of 10 you are looking at the wrong person anyway. Is it better to have the platinum membership?

Welcome to Genes Julie.
Don´t know what membership you have taken, but many of us just have the basic & use other sites for searching.
Whatever you choose, it´s an expensive hobby.
You can always ak for help on the boards. Other members are happy to do look ups for you.

Julie,

Welcome to the boards and as you say researching your ancestors can be hard and expensive. The biggest benefit of being a member of GR is the help that you can get from other members. Becoming a Platinum member will unfortunately still not be the answer to your prayers as no one site can give you all the answers.

There are a number of free sites which are available. It would certainly be worth your while to take a look at some of those before you decide what to do. The most useful of the free sites if your ancestors lived in England or Wales is www.freebmd.org.uk

Researching:
Don't put off until tomorrow doing what you can do today. If you like doing it today you can do it again tomorrow. Be kind to your children for it is they who will decide which care home you end up in.
