HELLO can anyone tell me if or where i can get any information on looking at some records of ships passengers, or any other kind of family records.

Where were they going? Depending on the period and destination, there may be incoming passenger lists available on Ancestry.

Alternatively, try searching for Lithuanian Family History - there are a number of results. This one appears to be free

yeah its a tuffy as they did change their names which i have from death and birth records/certs. not sure if the spelling are correct?

maybe the reg just wrote the names how he thought they sounded because it seems frank and mary couldnt write.
they are:
FRANK MILLER FORMALLY MINSYINSKAS
WIFE MARY FORMALLY YAKOB/PUDENSKY/PODEMSKI
Franks parents were on his death cert both deseaced.
JOHN MINSYINSKAS (TAILOR)
HIS WIFE ANNIE CURVINSKUTIS?

Since UK English and Welsh DC don't give the parents names, where did he die?

I think we've been assuming that the family immigrated to the UK - was the initial immigration to another country?

Do you have an approx year of birth for any of them? Where did the marriage(s) take place?
Have you found them on any UK census?

Are you mumamafia, the tree owner? The tree is called Terrell family tree

If what is listed on there is correct, then the eldest 2 children were born in "Greater?" Russia in Joseph 1885 and Mary 1888.

Then there are
William & Victoria 1898 in Northumberland
Ellen 1900 Northumberland who married Benjamin Turrell.

Since the extracts from census says that Mary, their mother, was born in Scotland, it could be that it was his 2nd marriage and the eldest 2 his... or adopted members of an extended family. Odd there is a 11 year gap in child birth

Its all a bit confused and it could be that some of the research is a little squiffy

yes that's my other tree tho i havent updated it for ages as i said .
Mary the mother born 1852 ish her daughter and son Joseph were born russia/poland. yes the other children born here which i found abit strange as Mary was pretty old by that time giving birth to my gran Ellen 1900. Mary the daughter wasnt born in scotland she signed her father frank's death cert.
i do have a thread on here about ships passengers and stuff. i dont wna get all confused anymore than i am.. so i may have deleat sum threads so as not to dupicate what and who im looking for.

francis miller is not my frank..as far as i see.. there are two frank millers with wives mary both tailors.. one with kids and the other without.. mine is the one with .. god this is getting confusing again.. phew!!

Even though there is unlikley to be incoming to GB passenger lists from Europe, if you can pin down an approx date range, it can help.

It's good to stick to one thread, so on that basis, we'd better leave this for additional suggestions on where you can look independently :-)

I don't know if you're aware of it, but Lithuanian names can change according to which family member it is. A man's surname may end in MAS ( ............mas), but his daughter's name would end in MAITE (..........maite). His wife's name would probably have a different ending and I'm not sure about a son.

I'm not entirely sure how this works - my daughter-in-law is Lithuanian, but it may help you when searching if you can't find exactly the right name.

yes i think they just wrote it as they thought it sounded, its so hard to find anything about them because of the name changes. dont know what to do or where to go as i did go to kew in richmond a few years ago when i found out about them but couldnt find anything like naturalisation or anything but them i was quiet new to the archives. its quite daunting so much to look at.

On Ancestry Message Boards there is a whole list of requests from mumamafia - Detective found this too - I am assuming you have been looking for family on these site under Eastern Europe.

There are a lot of replies about the family - they have offered you a lot of information back in 2007.

The information on Message Boards says they came to England via Ellis Island so may pay you to look there, but Jacki I really think it would be a good idea to revisit your thread on Message Boards as there has been a lot of time spent on this on your behalf.

It really does give a lot of information and it would help you to eliminate what is now not relevant. I know it was 2007 but it would save helpers going over the same ground as others have gone.

Well done on the family. When trying to trace my East European and Russian roots I have found the incoming passenger lists for Europe unlikely to be available as you stated, but I think Jacki's connection went first to Ellis Island and then came from there to GB, which may mean there is an incoming list for them.

Just on the names: I have found that in Russian naming the translation can be Mary, Maria, Marie etc. so that when looking on the sites it is hard to establish if one or other are the same person. Going back for names is very hard as the borders for the countries where your family originated from have changed so that once it may have been Poland, Russian, Latvia, Lithuania, and many people found they were once in Poland and now it is Germany, Russia or whoever was winning the war of the day!!

Sorry it is a simplistic way of describing but it was that way.

I am still looking for you and wish you good luck with this. I am still tracing my family with huge success and genes have been great.
