You could try searching for a newspaper report - in the local Archives or Library.

Also try www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk, which can also be accessed via GR

My granddad not called up for the first world war as he was disabled, having been badly injured in about 1910. Is there a record of the men not called up for any reason?
