Find Ancestors

Thanks to much appreciated assistance I have received from several members on here I think I have successfully traced the partners and children of eight of the nine children of John Wotherspoon and Janet Spittal.

However, there is one stray and that is George Wotherspoon the son of John Wotherspoon and Janet Spittal, who according to Scotland Births and Baptisms 1564-1950, was born on 14 January 1808.

Can anyone help as I can find nothing on him except an Ancestral File which quotes an inaccurate birth date and does not really say anything else except to give his parents name :-(

I only have one George Wotherspoon in my tree with a D.O.B. between 1800 and 1810 and that is the George Wotherspoon born 1808 so the one in the 1951 census with the estimated birth of 1807 could possibly be the one as the children's names appear to follow the naming pattern.

I have tried looking on Scotlands People for a wife but no joy there so I am currently trying various options on FanilySearch.org to see if that throws anything up.

Citing this Record

Death Record on Scotlands People would be the best bet as his wife (ves) will be named there as well as parents and a witness (often a child).

No joy after searching again this morning on Scotlands People for a definitive spouse of George Wotherspoon b1808.

Personally I find it ludicrous that Scotlands People charge you five credits to view a marriage before 1855 when they know full well that there is not a chance in hell that any conclusive information to actually prove that the marriages looked at will enable anyone to say !!! That's The One !!!

I am not a skinflint but as a pensioner I have to watch the pennies and for a better phrase, these wasted searches very quickly use up pounds :-(

I have found a possible death certificate for George Wotherspoon b1808 whose parents were John Wotherspoon and Janet Spittal.

I am especially interested in the details of the informant who I think is the son, name of George's father, and name of George's wife.

Unfortunately I have cataracts and am having problems trying to read this :-(

Having at last found the death certificate for George Wotherspoon b1808, the Census for 1861 showing:-

WOTHERSPOON, George Head Married M 53 1808 Wood Merchant Old Monkland, Lanarkshire appears to be the correct family.

On the death certificate Michael the son was the informant and Jane Hutchison is shown as his wife so this is the marriage, groom's name: George Wotherspoon - bride's name: Jane Hutchison. I have confirmed on SP that they married on 04/06/1848 at, Gorbals, Glasgow City, Lanark, Scotland.
