martha hayward please let me know either by this message or pm
i have a bap disc 1754 - 1812 ipswich
i have traced her bap from this she was bap st mary at quay ipswich dec 25th 1774
parents joseph hayward & hannah ??
ive tried family search they have nothing for her & ive b een told they have quite a lot missing on thier web anyway if this rings any bells or suggestions

I'm seeing lots of Martha Hayward's in Suffolk but none for around that date

as i stated i have the BAP ipswich cds from 1754 -1812
which says martha hayward was baptised 1774 which she was
ithe thread does not say birth then ive tried 1771 found nothing i presume she was born 1771 -1774 when like the bap thread says was her bap

oh sorry should have said even though her bap has not been found on here ive contacted suffolk f h s they assure me the bap cd ipswich i have is correct she was bap dec 25th 1774 and her parents are joseph hayward & hannah
she also had sibling bap john hayward may 14 th 1773 st mary at quay same as martha so shes there somewhere

Recorded in the spellings of Hayward, Haward, and Heyward, this is an English surname. It originates from the pre 7th Century words "hege" meaning hedge or fence, plus "weard", a watch or guardian. It was an occupational status surname for a person employed on an estate or settlement, to check and arrange the repair of all the fences and walls, to prevent unauthorised access to the royal hunting parks by poachers, and to deter cattle from breaking through into the arable lands and destroying crops. The surname is first recorded in the latter half of the 11th Century (see below), and other early examples include: Richard Haiward, who is recorded in the 1166 Pipe Rolls of Norfolk, and Alicia le Heyward, which is an interesting example of early job parity, who appears in the Hundred Rolls of Huntingdonshire, dated 1273.
