Find Ancestors

Thank you Erin........., I am still at a loss as to how I prove the individuals on the census are the one and same as those related to my wife's family, any suggestions ?

You may find these are your wife's folks....

A Mr Wm Alderdice and possibly some of his children signed the Ulster Covenant (1914) ...the age of signing had to be over 16 years....

You need to note that it has for Mr Wm. and Thomas.... Lurgan Co Down.
Could be an error.

Hello Gins, thanks again, sorry about the delay in responding, I have been away. I did respond earlier but checked and my response is not showing so I don't know what I did or did not do that caused it to go missing. I have read thoses census's before but do not know how to ensure that they are the same people referred to earlier in the births/marriages found by your good self and others. How do I go about confirming that ? Is it an educated guess ? Thanks again for the input. I have added the families to my tree in MyHeritage site meantime hoping that they may get a 'match' somewhere else and will add them to the genes tree if I can prove them to be related. Any advice re that ?

I also found these census records but was not sure if I can say they are related, is there some way I can confirm them as being the same persons as shown in the previous entries re births and marriages ? What should I look for ?

Gins, also, sorry in my delayed response this evening. I have been having trouble with my tree and have spent the evening reading posts on other parts of the site regarding the problems everyone seems to be having and got distracted.

However, I am very grateful for your assistance and if there is anywhere I should look to further my research I would love to hear what you suggest.

I could only find the birth of Thomas in 1870 when I searched the Lurgan Ancestry Site and it referred to the parents.

Then William's own Death Certificate in 1933 gave me his parents names as Thomas Alderdice and Susanna Gould, nfd, but the birth certificate of his son in 1900 gave me the information that he had married Jane Turner in Lurgan in 1887 so that was all I had to go on. I have traced lots of the Scottish relatives in the east and west coasts and it is basically the Irish side of the family I am trying to trace and try to establish if they originate from Ireland or if they were part of the Scottish Plantation into Armagh.
Thanks for the update though, again, Brilliant really chuffed, been looking for ages but obviously not in the right places.

I am looking for information regarding the relatives of Thomas Alderdice c1850 and Susanna aka Susan Gould c 1850 who are the parents of William bn1868 - 1933 and Thomas Alderdice bn 26 May 1870 in Lugan.

William married Jane Turner on 8th July 1887 in Lurgan and subsequently they moved to Scotland where they settled in the Dumbarton area, having several children, one of whom, William, bn 14 May 1900 is the grandfather of my wife.

I have no further information showing any other family members moved to Scotland, the 1901 Census shows a Thomas Alderdice, aged 30 living in Union Street, Lugan.

Any information / advice gladly received.
