Hi all,

Can anyone see a James Brownlee born c1856 Antrim, Ireland departing for Australia.

His parents names might be Robert & Eliza(beth).

Sorry, the only information I have on him is -

He married Eliza Carrick (nee McGrath) in 1925 in Glebe, New South Wales, three children were also registered in the same year under the name Brownlee. These children were originally registered under the surname of Carrick in 1895, 1897 and 1900.

Eliza's 1st husband died in 1889, they had 4 children.

Are you sure about his birth date, that 1925 marriage is a bit late?

According to an Ancestry tree James was born Ballymena May 28 1857 and married Eliza Mcgrath July 7 1893 Sydney NSW
Eliza Mcgrath was born Feb 22 1865 Glebe NSW and died Oct 12 1928 Glebe NSW
James' parents are shown as Robert ,born Ballymena - no DOB and Elizabeth Beakley no DOB
There is 1 child on the record , Elizabeth born 1898 and died 1974
No entry date into Oz I'm afraid

Gins, my SIL's grandfather was one of the children that was registered under Eliza's name only in 1897.

I contacted NSW BDM'S about the family registrations, (3 children being registered, as well as their marriage all being in1925) but have had no answer back from them as yet. As you said, they were a bit old to marrying.

Have you got the marriage certificate for 1925 to Brownlee? Im guessing its this Eliza (below) that married Carrick and dies in 1928?

It is the correct Eliza's death in 1928.

My SIL said that his family never talked about his grandparents, only thing that was mentioned was that James & his 2 siblings Eliza & Margaret were born in Glebe N.S.W. , only James later moved to Victoria and married.

How did you get back to James? This is the only birth for the place that you think he was born? You can buy the certificate online

I might try & get a special deal for Ancestry & try to contact the family who has a tree on there that Barry gave earlier. It looks like it could be James' sister Eliza(beth)'s family. Thought that it might be on Mundia!!

All I have is that my SIL remembers when he was young, his grandfather telling him that he lived in Glebe with his parents & sisters Eliza & Margaret.

No I don't have much information at all - just trying to help SIL.

Since James 1856, each 1st born boy in his descendants, has had the name James.

Do you mean that these could be be James' sisters?

The ones that you have given might be connected to James, does it give parents names.

No, there are no parents names listed to the above births


So Eliza and Margaret were born to James and Eliza? James would have been nearing 70 years old if they were born between 1925 - 1928?
