Find Ancestors

I am looking for information on HUGH HENDERSON who i found on the 1861 Census. It states he was 20 yrs old and was working as a road labourer on the Orkney Islands. It states that he was born in Caithness Scotland. I think he could have come to the Orkney Islands in 1860 to start work on the roads and he left maybe after the road building was over some time after the 1861 census. My cousin in Canada is in his 90's and would love to learn about his Henderson Heritage. If any one could help me in any way it would be very much appreciated. Thank you. Ann

Have you got William and David's birth certificates?

I just looked at the male births between 1839 to 1841 for Henderson at Caithness on scotlandspeople, and there was no Hugh.

Thank you very much for your replies . I am new to the cummunity boards and am amazed at your kindness to have looked the above info up for me. I cannot work backwards or know which of the Hughs born around the same time, mine could be. Hugh Henderson is the name of the father, i have been told, of my great grandfather born on Orkney who was illegitimate. The story is of a lost man from the south, which is Caithness my Orkney relatives say in them days.
The only Hugh Henderson on the 1861 Census in Orkney is this one and i have no further info to help me. I was hoping to find someone with hugh on there tree in Caithness who may not be on the 1861 census in his home town. I will look and your information and add it to my file .
