With the help of people in this forum i have an almost complete timeline for my grandfather Arthur Rhodes. I know he was born in 1871 and died in 1943. I know he married my grandmother in 1902 and she died in 1920, and that Arthur married again, not sure when or to whom yet but thats for further investigation. What is bugging me is that i cant find any reference to him in 1901. I have searched by alternative spellings of the surname, no luck. I would like to know if anyone can advise me on how to continue my search please. :-( |

1901 was the time of the Boer war - it is possible that he was in the Army then, a lot of men joined. |

Sometimes my ignorance astounds me, i had no idea that there were two Boer wars, its amazing how much your education can be improved doing this sort of thing. I assume that in order to be sure of his military service i will need to add features to my membership package. Would some kind person please suggest the most useful of the features that are available, in their opinion of course. I do not see the purchase of the newspaper records as being that useful just yet, because i need to get a few basics before i start to think about newsworthy events. Also around £40 is a but expensive. :-D |
