Robert - you must know something else to have arrived at his name. How is he connected in your family?

Not seeing anything in US records at first glance.

Perhaps the 1835 George died and the parents called the 1837 child after him.

Quite possible Kath - names were often recycled back then.

Possible ???

I had assumed (I know I shouldn't) that he died in the USA.

As for names being recycled - it still happens these days. My husband was named the same as his brother who died as a baby (just 12 hrs. old) the year before hubby was born. They were both named after their grandfather.

Robert Report 11 Oct 2012 23:52

Yes, you have got the parents right - I hadn't known about the first George though.

He died of wounds received on the battlefield (the contents of an old letter from Frederick Sarvent written about 1950).

I am also a recycled child my elder brother living one day and I was born a year later.

KathleenBell

KathleenBell Report 11 Oct 2012 23:55

Did he die in the USA or in England? Could the death that MariieCeleste found be him?

MarieCeleste Report 12 Oct 2012 00:19

Robert, I'm puzzled by the dates in your posts.

You say George Servant died of wounds following the US Civil war (which was 1860s) but this is from an old letter written 1950?

Robert

Robert Report 12 Oct 2012 21:06

SARVENT
He apparently died in USA - this is the only clue I have for him - bit of a negative clue.

My mother was in contact with Eric who wrote the letter as he know more about the English side of the family.

Don't really know what you mean by, "I'm puzzled by the dates in your posts." Eric was quite a flamboyant character and went into lots of details how we were expelled from france by being protestents

KathleenBell

KathleenBell Report 12 Oct 2012 23:29

I think what MarieCeleste was meaning by "I'm puzzled by the dates in your posts" was how could someone writing a letter in the 1950's be certain of something that happened 90 years earlier unless he had documentary proof - like a death certificate.

Kath - belated response, but yes that is what I meant by the dates.

Robert - what relation was Eric (Frederick?) the letter writer to George Sarvent who allegedly died in the civil war?

(If you could give us all of your info up front it would help us to help you, e.g. in your opening post you said that was all you knew but you obviously knew who his parents were as you confirmed when I posted the baptism).

Robert

Robert Report 15 Oct 2012 21:42

Freddrick was a nephew. Thus I would have thought that his father would have kept him right.

I thought you could see my tree? Is there a way I can do this? I am a recent novice on this web site and do not know the inns and outs of it (sorry).

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 15 Oct 2012 22:52

Robert - no, we can't see your tree! The only people who can see it are those that you invite, that's why you need to give as much info as possible when you're posting for help on these boards.

This does sound rather like it. After all his father was a carpenter before he became a Methodist Minister (in fact a carpenter to royality) maybe this is another story they made up. :-)
