My father married in 1949 he left the ship in Melbourne Australia to marry mum he hadn't finished his time in the navy so he was classified as a deserter. We only know this because upon his death in 1960 mum wrote away for his war medals but this was denied, he had 4 sons and now has 7 grandsons. I know he had 3 ships shot out from underneath him he had war injuries and shrapnel still in his body. He was married under the name a w Sanford but the letter we received back from the defence dept had the name a w lathwell I don't know how to go about finding out,his naval history during his lifetime, I would love to know about, his life to pass on to my sons, I remember a picture with a girl holding a baby I think it was his sister I may have living relatives over there which would be good hoping somebody can help me |
