Thank you, that was very quick. This marriage is correct, Margaret I believe is John's sister. Jane Appleby was born 1800 in Hornby by Bedale and is mentioned in John's will of 1845 but I cannot find her on any index for 1851 census returns or a death. According to the will she is living with John in 1845 as Jane Appleby so I don't think she will have got married.

Maybe uncle John just used her maiden name??

Hmmm, food for thought, as Hornby by Bedale was only a small hamlet in 1800 (and probably still is) I don't think there would be two Janes born there both in 1800 so I think this could be her. Not so sure about Emma though. Thank you again for your help. :-D

Was just going to ask if it could have been an O. You must be right about Jane because on the 1881 census at Pately Bridge Emma is not listed at the family home and she is definitely one of their sisters. It didn't occur to me that Jane might have got married at 47 years of age. Thank you so much.
