My great great grandfather, Louis Hansen, was born in Heligoland in 1813. I understand at that time it was a British possession. He later settled in South Australia where his name became anglicized to Lewis Hanson. I am trying to find out the names of his parents. Can anyone advise? |

I have the information from the South Australian records but on his death certificate there is no information about his parents. He was First Officer on the ship, Solway, which landed in Kangaroo Island in October 1837. The ship was then shipwrecked and he stayed on in Australia. He married Eliza Shannon, an immigrant from Ireland in Adelaide in 1841. |

I have been in contact with the genealogy expert at the local museum in Heligoland and he has informed me that he can find no record of Louis Hansen being born there in 1813. This has thrown me somewhat! I was wondering therefore if he had been born in Denmark or Germany in 1813 but grew up on Heligoland. Any suggestions please? |
